Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nice (museum of fine arts), visit

From the 13th to the 20th century.

The Musée des Beaux-Arts is the successor to an original museum created from state donations bequeathed by Napoléon III after Nice was annexed to France in 1860. In 1928 it was located in a magnificent house built on the initiative of the Russian princess Kotchoubey in 1878 and finished by the American, Thompson.

A century later, the charm of the building is still apparent thanks to the remarkable high ceilings and a huge marble staircase.
It was further enhanced in 2002 by an important donation of 75 sculptures by Michel de Tarnowsky (Nice, 1870-1946), thanks to the association of his friends, created in 1992 by his daughter Françoise. The collections of paintings and sculptures go from the 13th to the 20th century.
