The Villa Masséna was built between 1898 and 1901 on the model of Italian villas of the First Empire. The museum sets out the most distinctive aspects of the influence of Nice from the First Empire to 1939.

The museum’s 15,000 pieces - furniture, painting, sculptures and objets d’art - provide full and varied evidence of the city's history.
