In the footsteps of the Orthodox religion

Located at the crossroads of Mediterranean cultures, Nice has a beautiful Russian Orthodox cathedral and church which can be an interesting stop during your cultural tour of the city. Palais de la Méditerranée is two kilometres on foot from the Saint Nicholas cathedral and less than one kilometre from the Saint Alexandra church.

The parish of Saint Nicholas and Saint Alexandra of Nice celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2010 and, for the occasion, opened its doors to many visitors. Both the cathedral and the church gladly welcome during their religious service, tourists who can show respect and be discrete. If you carefully plan your stay, you will be able to include a visit of these sites during an Orthodox holy day to admire the religious rites. To this end, you will find more information on the parish’s calendar.

The Russian Orthodox Cathedral and church are under the control of the exarchate of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. The donations of numerous faithful churchgoers of the region have allowed the parish to be kept in excellent state. Both the cathedral and the church are worth the trip. The cathedral also possesses a cemetery where the tombs of some great men and women are a silent call for tranquility. However, here and there, the ivy and other herbs have made difficult the reading of gravestone inscriptions.
