The Opera and the theatres of Nice

Within a stone’s throw from our luxury hotel, Palais de la Méditerranée, the Opera of Nice is without doubt one of the most beautiful lyric operas of France. Located in the Old Nice, its superb chandelier, its painted ceiling and its red velvet decor testify to the importance given here to music and singing. Opened in 1885, the quality of its classical performances (singing, ballet, concerts by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra) has given it its national prestige. The fans of opera melodies will appreciate the Opera of Nice’s programme which proposes about a hundred of performances per season.

The theatre-lovers will appreciate the diversity of shows presented in the city’s numerous theatres. Nice has no less than seven theatres, among which the famous National Theatre of Nice with its resolutely eclectic repertoire. The Théâtre National has two main auditoriums, an Italian room of 900 seats and an amphitheatre of 300 seats. Its modern architecture, made of an octagon of light marble, is a stark contrast against the azure skies of Nice. The city’s cultural diversity also takes the front seat at the “Théâtre de la Semeuse”, in the Old Nice , where drama and more regional productions are favoured. The same kind of programme is offered at the “Théâtre de la Tour”, not far from the stadium. For families looking for entertainment, the “P’tit théâtre de l’Inattendu” will seduce young and old alike.
