Cimiez Monastery, Nice, visit

All year long

Quiet contemplation in a beautiful garden.

Located on the Cimiez hill, the monastery and particularly the gardens are popular places to go for a walk. Every summer, the authorities of Nice organize several events here, such as the traditional celebrations in May, and the very famous International Jazz Festival which combines the greatest artists of jazz from over the years and the hot new talents on the jazz scene.

Acquired by the city in the early twentieth century, the monastery's land was transformed into a public garden.
Besides the wonderful view over the east of the city, the quality of the flowerbeds and charm of the rose garden also attract plenty of visitors, and this is a favourite spot with newlyweds for photo shoots.

The monastery also houses the Franciscan Museum which evokes Franciscan life in Nice from the thirteenth century to the present day. This beautiful place invites quiet contemplation, and the monastery is a must see in this area, after you have visited the Arena in Cimiez.
